To start off this blog it feels appropriate to start at the very beginning with the wedding for which the Ashridge Great Barn was originally restored. (More about the restoration and story of the Barn here). Cat is now the manager of the Barn so you can rest assured that you’re being supported by someone with personal experience of weddings here at Ashridge!
The bridal party colours were inspired by female peacocks and simple but elegant flowers from Divine Flowers Crediton consisted of a white rose teardrop bridal bouquet and matching bridesmaids posies and buttonholes.
Having got married in a local church, Cat and Izi arrived at Ashridge on horseback, making an entrance to their drinks reception in the gardens in style.
Drinks and nibbles were served by Oaktree Occasions (read their blog about the wedding here!) in the Magic Circle where the happy couple also had a flower petal confetti moment and greeted their guests.
The Great Barn was decorated in seasonal flowers for their wedding breakfast with Oaktree Occasions rising to the challenge of providing an international menu to reflect the couples’ backgrounds.
To start a sharing platter of local meats and cheeses was served to the tables followed by three food stations serving Colombian lechona (a pork dish), Slovenian wiener schnitzel with potatoes and salad and Japanese seared beef, spiced mackerel and sesame vegetables served with rice. Devonian desserts followed with a tantalising quartet of scones with cream and jam, mini apple and black currant crumbles, lemon meringue tartlets and chocolate eclairs (the groom’s favourite!) on sharing platters.
Once food was finished guests were free to enjoy the outside fire pit and mingle before the cake was cut and the couple took to the dance floor for their first dance.
Music for the evening was provided by the Late Shift band who went down an absolute storm and kept everyone dancing until cut off at 1am.
